About Sunirmal Maiti

Trained as a printmaker, Sunirmal Maiti has been practicing painting for over twenty years. His works draw inspiration from mythology and literature, infusing his paintings with a sublime aesthetics of rich visual tempera traditions of India, to establish an exchange between contemporary expression and the echoes of the past that beckon wonder and exploration. Mythology, the Puranas & spiritualism have been subjects of Maiti's artistic interest since 2004. Through this exploration, he strives to enrich his understanding of the complexity of Indian identities, capturing the interplay of tradition and modernity in art.
